Xpeng has launched the 2026 version of its X9 pure-electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), cutting the starting price by 50,000 yuan as it seeks to strengthen its position in China's premium EV segment.

The updated X9 begins at 309,800 yuan ($42,600), down from the previous pure-electric model's starting price of 359,800 yuan. The new base price aligns with the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant introduced late last year.

The 2026 X9 is built on an 800-volt platform and comes standard with a 5C ultra-fast charging battery across all variants. Xpeng said the model offers a maximum pure-electric range of up to 750 kilometres, describing it as the longest-range seven-seat electric MPV supporting 5C charging.

Five variants are available, priced at 309,800 yuan, 321,800 yuan, 329,800 yuan, 349,800 yuan and 369,800 yuan. Dimensions remain unchanged from the EREV version, measuring 5,293 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width and 1,785 mm in height, with a 3,160 mm wheelbase.

All versions are equipped with Xpeng's in-house developed Turing AI chip, delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power. The highest-priced variant features three Turing AI chips, while the base model uses a single chip.

The launch coincides with the rollout of Xpeng's second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA 2.0) smart driving system, which the company said will begin deployment in vehicles later this month. Chief Executive He Xiaopeng recently disclosed that Volkswagen will adopt VLA 2.0 as its first commercial customer.

The release comes shortly after Xpeng reported February deliveries of 15,256 vehicles, down nearly 50% year-on-year, partly due to the Lunar New Year holiday and model transitions.

Looking ahead, Xpeng is expanding its dual-power strategy combining battery-electric and extended-range models. The company has set a 2026 delivery target of 550,000 to 600,000 vehicles, compared with 429,400 units delivered in 2025.

Xpeng also plans to introduce four new SUV models this year and has outlined ambitions to double overseas sales in 2026, targeting annual overseas deliveries of 1 million vehicles by 2030.
