BYD's premium brand Denza will launch the Z9GT in Europe on April 8, debuting the company's Flash Charging technology at an event in Paris. The system pairs BYD's second-generation Blade Battery with chargers capable of up to 1,500 kW, delivering a 10%–70% charge in five minutes and 10%–97% in nine minutes.

Highlights

Flash Charging speeds: 10%–70% in five minutes, 10%–97% in nine minutes, and 20%–97% in 12 minutes at temperatures as low as -30°C

Blade Battery 2.0 retains lithium iron phosphate chemistry while improving energy density, charge speed, temperature tolerance, and degradation resistance

Z9GT specs: 122 kWh battery, up to 800 km range (rear-wheel drive), and a triple-motor variant producing over 960 PS with sub-three-second 0–100 km/h acceleration

European charging rollout: BYD has committed to an initial wave of Flash Charger installations across Europe, with thousands already operating in China

How Flash Charging Works

Flash Charging combines two advances. The first is BYD's latest charging station hardware, which delivers up to 1,500 kW through a single cable using the Chinese-market connector. The second is the Blade Battery 2.0, which uses improved ion transport to charge faster across a wider temperature range while reducing long-term degradation.

BYD frames the system around the slogan "Ready in 5, Full in 9, Cold Add 3." That refers to three benchmarks: five minutes from 10% to 70%, nine minutes from 10% to 97%, and 12 minutes from 20% to 97% in extreme cold down to -30°C.

Z9GT Platform and Performance

The Z9GT is a shooting brake grand tourer built on Denza's e3 Platform. In rear-wheel-drive form, its 122 kWh Blade Battery provides an estimated range of up to 800 km. The triple-motor all-electric variant delivers over 960 PS and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds.

Inside, Denza partnered with French audio specialist Devialet. The cabin features a bespoke speaker configuration with Dolby Atmos immersive audio technology.

European Launch Plans

Stella Li, BYD Executive Vice President, said: "The introduction of the DENZA Z9GT in Europe marks a very important milestone for our brand. The Z9GT represents the true spirit of DENZA - where advanced technology, beautiful design and emotional driving come together."

Li added: "It's the perfect choice to introduce the principle of 'Ready in 5, Full in 9, Cold Add 3' to the world, as we start our global rollout of FLASH Charging in Europe. The ability to add hundreds of kilometres of range in just minutes, even in extremely low temperatures, means the Z9GT perfectly reflects our vision for DENZA: technology that inspires, performance that excites and elegance that defines the future of premium mobility."

BYD has already installed thousands of Flash Charging stations in China. The company confirmed a global rollout will include an initial deployment of Flash Chargers in Europe. Additional details on charging infrastructure plans will follow ahead of the Z9GT's arrival.

Denza, originally founded in 2010 as a BYD-Daimler partnership, is entering the European market in 2026 with an initial lineup of three models.
