EVs – comprising pure electric and plug-in hybrids – accounted for 57.8 per cent of total car sales on the mainland in September. Total deliveries of petrol and electric cars increased 6.3 per cent to 2.23 million units.
Voyah, an EV unit of state-owned Dongfeng Motor, began taking orders for its flagship SUV, the Taishan, last month. Starting with a full charge in its 65 kilowatt-hour battery pack and a full tank of petrol, the hybrid SUV can go as far as 1,400km. The battery alone offers a driving range of up to 370km.
