BYD to Unveil Great Tang on March 5

On March 3, Lu Tian, the general manager of BYD's Dynasty Network sales division, announced that the division's first flagship D-segment SUV, the BYD Great Tang, will officially launch on March 5.

According to filings with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the vehicle will come in two lengths-5,263 mm and 5,302 mm-with a width of 1,999 mm and a height between 1,790 mm and 1,800 mm. It features a 3,130 mm wheelbase and seats seven passengers. The curb weight ranges from 2,640 kg to 2,970 kg, and the gross vehicle weight is between 3,245 kg and 3,575 kg. Its top speed varies from 240 km/h to 250 km/h, and tire options include sizes 265/45R21, 255/50R20, and 275/45R20.

The SUV is powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and comes standard with a panoramic roof. Buyers can customize their vehicle with accessories such as black front bumper trim, a rear spoiler, and rear bumper decorations.

Dimensions differ slightly based on configuration: selecting air suspension sets the height at 1,790 mm, while adding rear bumper trim extends the length to 5,302 mm. The front and rear overhangs measure 995 mm and 1,177 mm, respectively. As a flagship D-segment model, the BYD Great Tang includes standard rear-wheel steering, which is crucial for maneuvering a vehicle over 5.2 meters long in city driving and parking. Additionally, a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor suggests the SUV will feature BYD's advanced driver-assistance system called "God's Eye."

A key highlight is the fully electric version built on BYD's Super e-Platform, which features a 1,000-volt architecture, a 10C flash-charge battery, and a charging current of 1,000 amps, allowing for a peak charging power of 1,000 kW. This technology significantly speeds up charging to reduce range anxiety. Besides the electric model, the lineup is also expected to include a plug-in hybrid variant to cater to different driving preferences.
