BYD has previewed the Song Ultra EV, which is set to become the newest addition to its best-selling Song series, as the Chinese automaker continues to expand its battery-electric SUV portfolio.

Lu Tian, head of sales for BYD's Dynasty lineup, shared the first official image of the Song Ultra EV on social media platform Weibo on Wednesday, describing it as the brand's first B-class pure electric SUV. No further technical or commercial details were disclosed at the time.
The Song Ultra EV has already appeared in a regulatory filing with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a standard step ahead of a domestic market launch. According to the filing, the vehicle measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm.
That makes it slightly larger than the Song L EV, which is 4,840 mm long, 1,950 mm wide and 1,560 mm high, with a 2,930 mm wheelbase.
The Song Ultra EV will feature a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive powertrain delivering a peak output of 270 kW and a top speed of 210 km/h. By comparison, the Song L EV also uses a rear-wheel-drive layout but offers lower peak power options of 150 kW and 230 kW.
Regulatory information shows that the Song Ultra EV supports optional LiDAR hardware and is expected to be equipped with BYD's "God's Eye B" advanced driver-assistance system, enabling features such as Urban Navigation on Autopilot (NOA).
BYD has not yet announced pricing for the Song Ultra EV. The Song L EV Smart Driving Edition is currently priced between RMB 189,800 ($27,360) and RMB 249,800 in China.
The Song series is one of BYD's strongest-selling nameplates and plays a central role in the company's strategy to defend market share in China's increasingly competitive electric SUV segment.
