Chinese New Energy Vehicles Enter the United Arab Emirates
"We will celebrate the arrival of the last barrel of oil." This is the famous saying of UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reflecting the vision and determination of the UAE as a major oil producer and exporter to accelerate the transformation of the energy structure.
The UAE was one of the first Gulf countries to propose a green economic transition. In order to promote the development of sustainable green transport, the UAE has introduced a series of policies to support new energy vehicles. In May 2023, the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure launched the "Global Electric Vehicle Market" project with the goal of increasing the proportion of electric vehicles on UAE roads to 50% by 2050.
As the largest emirate in the United Arab Emirates, ABU Dhabi announced the construction of a city-wide charging station network in 2022, and unified regulations on charging configuration, technical parameters and price mechanisms to improve the supporting infrastructure construction of new energy vehicles. Another emirate, Dubai, has put forward the 2030 Green Transportation Strategy, which aims to have 42,000 electric vehicles by 2030, and the proportion of electric or hybrid vehicles in Dubai's government vehicles should also reach 30% by 2030. In order to encourage more consumers to buy and drive new energy vehicles, Dubai also stipulates that 5% of parking Spaces should be reserved for green low-emission vehicles.

In addition to policy support, the UAE has also begun to make efforts in the manufacture of new energy vehicles. In 2023, Dubai-based Newton Group launched the Rabdan One, the first electric vehicle to receive the "Made in the UAE" mark, which is fully assembled at its plant in ABU Dhabi. Previously, Newtown Group has been listed on NASDAQ in the United States, becoming the first share of UAE new energy vehicles listed in the United States.

Thanks to the government's policy of developing green transportation and the continuous improvement of supporting facilities, the development conditions of the UAE's new energy vehicle industry have been in a leading position in the entire Middle East. According to a report by the Brussels-based Little Consulting Company, 82% of UAE consumers are willing to buy new energy vehicles as their "next car", which will undoubtedly bring huge business opportunities for Chinese car companies in the Middle East.
